India is making significant strides in its bullet train project, leveraging local technology, Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Wednesday.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha, Vaishnaw described the Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train project as technologically complex and currently aided by Japan. The project spans 508 km, with 320 km actively under construction. Progress in Maharashtra accelerated after the BJP-Shiv Sena administration took charge in 2022, granting all necessary permissions.
Moreover, India's first 21-km long undersea rail tunnel is under construction. Initially reliant on foreign technology, India is now focused on developing indigenous capabilities to achieve self-reliance.
