Opposition MPs in the Lok Sabha voiced serious concerns on Wednesday regarding the rise in train accidents across the nation, pressing the government to address the issues plaguing the railways. Treasury bench members, however, were quick to laud the significant strides in expanding the railway network.
As discussions on the Demand for Grants for the railways ministry unfolded, several MPs demanded new railway lines in their regions. Rashtriya Janata Dal MP Abhay Kumar Sinha from Aurangabad highlighted recent train accidents as indicators of existing shortcomings and called for enhanced safety measures and track expansions.
Sinha also warned against the privatization of railways, citing potential spikes in unemployment. Parallelly, Revolutionary Socialist Party MP N K Premachandran emphasized insufficient safety budgets, and Congress MP Harish Meena critiqued the railway budget for neglecting safety issues. BJP MPs defended the progress while Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw updated on the ambitious bullet train project, noting the rapid advancements despite initial delays.
