There have been no fatalities due to overcrowding in trains by passengers with unconfirmed tickets in the last three years, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on Friday.

Vaishnaw was responding to questions from AAP MP Raghav Chadha about an increase in fatalities related to overcrowded trains and unconfirmed tickets over the past three years.

Chadha also inquired about accidents linked to defective train infrastructure since 2019 and the reasons for the Railways' inability to implement foolproof safety mechanisms despite repeated incidents.

Vaishnaw clarified that there have been no fatalities due to overcrowding and no reported accidents due to defective infrastructure in the past five years.

To meet the traveling needs of passengers, Indian Railways operates various types of trains, such as suburban and long-distance trains. They also offer special train services during festivals and holidays and augment train capacity to meet additional demand.
