Local train services on a section of the Central Railway route in Maharashtra's Thane district were disrupted on Monday afternoon due to a technical issue, officials reported.
The unexpected halt led to significant crowding at Thakurli railway station, according to police statements.
The Central Railway addressed the situation on X, stating that a fault between Thakurli and Kalyan had affected the down through line from 14:28 pm. They assured that technical teams were working diligently to restore services and apologized for the inconvenience caused. Senior police inspector Kiran Undre from the Government Railway Police in Dombivli explained that a snag in the overhead equipment wire caused the disruption.
Police efforts were focused on managing the large crowd gathered at Thakurli station, and some commuters reported hearing loud, blast-like sounds from the affected equipment.
