Asian Markets Brace for Relief Rally Amid Volatile Trading Conditions
Asian share markets were on edge for a relief rally on Tuesday with futures indicating a significant bounce for the Nikkei index. Central bank reassurances and easing margin positions were seen as key factors. The U.S. market also appeared steadier, with Federal Reserve signals influencing investor sentiment.
Asian share markets anticipated a relief rally on Tuesday, fueled by futures pointing to a significant rebound for the Nikkei and soothing remarks from central bank officials.
Nikkei futures traded at 33,640, implying a 2,000-point climb from Monday's close of 31,458. The index experienced its worst selloff since 1987's Black Monday, losing 12.4%. U.S. markets also showed signs of stabilization as S&P 500 futures gained 0.9% and Nasdaq futures rose 1.2%, after both indices had substantial drops on Monday.
Chris Weston, research head at Pepperstone, mentioned a potential strong counter rally but cautioned about high volatility for the Nikkei. While the dollar rebounded against the yen and Swiss franc, gold prices did not benefit from safe-haven bids, dropping 1.52%. Oil prices surged due to heightened geopolitical tensions with a U.S. military base attack in Iraq.
