The Union government on Friday approved the underground extension of the existing PCMC-Swargate metro line, extending from Swargate to Katraj in Pune.
In a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Cabinet approved the 5.46 km corridor, according to a PIB release. The new extension, known as the Line-1 B extension, will feature three underground stations connecting key areas such as Market Yard, Bibwewadi, Balaji Nagar, and Katraj suburbs.
This project aims to provide seamless connectivity for Pune, concluding by February 2029. The estimated project cost is Rs. 2954.53 crore, funded equally by the Union and state governments with contributions from bilateral agencies. Integrating with the Swargate Multimodal Hub, the extension will alleviate traffic congestion while linking significant bus stops, railway stations, recreational centres, and major business hubs.
