Major ports operators have called on dock workers' unions for a crucial meeting in New Delhi next week to thwart an indefinite nationwide strike scheduled to begin on August 28, sources revealed on Friday.
During a national coordination meeting in Tuticorn, Tamil Nadu, on August 8, worker unions decided to strike indefinitely from August 28 to force a resolution on long-pending wage revisions and benefits.
Rajeev Jalota, Chairman of the Mumbai Port Authority and the Bipartite Wage Negotiations Committee, announced a meeting on August 28 in New Delhi to deliberate on the workers' demands. Jalota expressed optimism for achieving an amicable solution through these discussions.
