Cathay Pacific Grounds A350 Fleet for Urgent Inspections After Engine Failure
Cathay Pacific Airways is inspecting all 48 of its Airbus A350 jets following an engine component failure on flight CX383. The issue, involving a Rolls-Royce engine, led to the cancellation of various flights. Other airlines with A350 fleets are also monitoring the situation closely.
Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific Airways announced on Monday a comprehensive inspection of all 48 Airbus A350 widebody jets in its fleet after an engine component manufactured by Rolls-Royce failed in mid-flight.
The incident took place shortly after take-off on flight CX383 en route to Zurich, necessitating a fuel dump and safe return to Hong Kong. Cathay Pacific confirmed the failure of an engine component but did not specify which one, marking the first recorded failure of its kind on an A350.
Rolls-Royce shares dropped 6.5% amid the investigation, and Cathay cancelled 24 flights to inspect engines. The airline identified multiple components needing replacement but remains unclear which aircraft models are affected. Other airlines with A350s are monitoring the situation and may act based on future updates.
