IndiGo, India's leading airline, has settled a reduced penalty of Rs 70 lakh imposed by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). The penalty stems from an incident where passengers were seen having food on the Mumbai airport tarmac in January this year.

Originally, BCAS had levied a fine of Rs 1.2 crore on January 18 following the January 14 incident. The airline's diverted Goa-Delhi flight landed in Mumbai due to fog at Delhi airport, leading impatient passengers to rush onto the tarmac.

In a regulatory filing on Tuesday, IndiGo disclosed that the penalty amount was reduced after an appeal, and the revised sum was paid on September 10, 2024. IndiGo cited delays in the disclosure process due to ongoing reviews of legal remedies available against the order.
