Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Monday revealed intentions to personally visit tea gardens owned by public sector enterprise Andrew Yule to address and alleviate worker hardships. This declaration came as he thanked Assam Industries Minister Bimal Borah for briefing him on the many challenges these tea gardens are currently facing.

At a press conference, Kumaraswamy expressed his concern regarding the economic challenges and hardships faced by tea garden workers employed by Andrew Yule Group in Assam. Additionally, he announced that tea garden workers would receive a 20% Durga Puja bonus, aligning with the bonuses given to workers in other gardens.

Highlighting his plans for the industrial sector, Kumaraswamy pointed to a recent visit to the Cement Corporation of India Ltd factory in Bokajan, Karbi Anglong district. He revealed a Rs 700 crore investment to revive the cement industry in the region, emphasizing the necessity for a cement manufacturing unit in the northeastern states. Further, he discussed the expansion of the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME) policy in Assam, which includes a substantial investment of over Rs 2,000 crore for battery charging stations and the purchase of more than 18,000 e-buses across the country.
