Noel Tata, half-brother of the late Ratan Tata, has been appointed as the new Chairman of Tata Trusts. Noel, aged 67, has spent more than four decades working within the Tata Group, gradually ascending within the salt-to-software conglomerate.
In the absence of his renowned half-brother, Noel will now steer the Tata Trusts, which include the Sir Ratan Tata Trust & Allied Trusts and the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust & Allied Trusts. These trusts hold a significant 66 per cent controlling stake in Tata Sons, the main holding entity of the Tata Group's businesses.
Noel, son of Naval H Tata and Simone N Tata, has served in several key roles within the group, including Chairmanships at Trent, Tata International Ltd., Voltas, and Tata Investment Corporation, as well as the Vice Chairmanship of Tata Steel and Titan Company Ltd. His previous experience includes boosting Tata International Ltd's turnover from USD 500 million to over USD 3 billion during his tenure as Managing Director from August 2010 to November 2021.
