Riyadh Air, a recently established Saudi Arabian startup airline, has placed a substantial order for 60 A321neo aircraft with Airbus, the renowned European aerospace manufacturer, as confirmed this Wednesday.

Set to initiate passenger services next summer, Riyadh Air's significant acquisition of Airbus' leading model underscores a larger Saudi ambition to transform its oil-focused economy by bolstering tourism and aviation capabilities. With an aspiration to become a major global aviation hub, Saudi Arabia is targeting 100 million visitors annually by 2030.

Tony Douglas, CEO of Riyadh Air, highlighted the comprehensive economic benefits of this strategic venture. Earlier this year, Riyadh Air established a partnership with Delta Air Lines to connect flights between the US and Saudi Arabia. Additionally, last year, the airline, along with Saudia, announced a combined Boeing order, further solidifying its rapid expansion plans.
