The Indian government is taking steps to enhance the mobility of its army along the northern borders by procuring All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs). On Tuesday, officials issued a Request for Information (RFI) to identify potential vendors for this strategic project.
The ATVs are expected to offer unmatched cross-country mobility for infantry units, serving as platforms for surveillance, weapon deployment, and logistics resupply in challenging terrains. The Ministry of Defence has delineated several mandatory features for these vehicles including automatic transmission and a minimum seating capacity for four personnel.
Additional technical specifications highlighted in the RFI encompass heliportability with service helicopters, such as the Chinook and Mi26, and a GNSS-based navigation system. The Ministry aims to streamline operations in areas lacking established road infrastructure, ensuring rapid troop mobility and operational efficiency.
