India Drops Anti-Dumping Probe on Chinese Fasteners: A Win for Trade Fairness
The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) in India has concluded its anti-dumping investigation into Chinese fasteners, citing insufficient evidence of dumping and injury. Initiated 'suo-motu' in 2023, the investigation aimed to protect MSMEs. Despite the termination, DGTR recommends a duty on imports of 'textured tempered glass' from China and Vietnam.

The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), an investigation arm of India's Commerce Ministry, has called off its anti-dumping investigation concerning Chinese fasteners due to insufficient evidence. The decision comes after the probe, which began suo-motu in September 2023, aimed to assess alleged dumping that could harm local industries.
Fasteners, including screws, bolts, and nuts used in sectors like construction and automotive, were at the heart of this investigation. The DGTR concluded that a lack of required data made any conclusive determination impossible, leading to the termination of the investigation. This move initially sought to offer protection to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
While the fastener investigation ended without imposing duties, in a separate notification, the DGTR has put forth an anti-dumping duty of up to USD 664 per tonne on imports of 'textured tempered glass' from China and Vietnam, underscoring continued vigilance in safeguarding domestic industry interests.
