Vodafone Idea is under financial pressure as the Department of Telecom (DoT) demands a bank guarantee of Rs 6,090.7 crore or a cash payment of Rs 5,493.2 crore for a shortage in spectrum auction payments made in 2015.

The telecom company is exploring the possibility of settling these dues through equity and has entered into negotiations with DoT, leveraging the provisions of the telecom reforms package of 2021.

With total outstanding debts aggregating to over Rs 2.27 lakh crore, Vodafone Idea has reported narrowed losses in the December quarter, coupled with a 4% rise in operational revenue compared to the previous year.
