India's Strategic Move: Seeking Bids for 114 Multi-Role Fighters
India plans to call for bids for 114 new multi-role fighter jets to strengthen its combat aircraft fleet, a crucial move as Chinese air power expands. Major defense firms are competing for the contract, focusing on strong local partnerships and cost-effective solutions amidst ongoing supply chain preparations.

India is set to invite bids for 114 multi-role fighter jets this year, marking a significant step in its effort to enhance its combat aircraft capabilities which have been under-fulfilled for nearly two decades.
Amidst China's rapid air force expansion, India's fighter squadrons have dwindled to 31 from an approved strength of 42, necessitating urgent action. At the Aero India aerospace exhibition in Bengaluru, several major defense companies, including U.S. giants Lockheed Martin and Boeing, Russia's United Aircraft Corporation, and others, showcased their interest in the Indian market.
These firms are working on cost-effective proposals and potential local partnerships. Lockheed Martin is promoting its F-21, while Russia has offered its advanced Su-57. The competition remains fierce, with other international players like Saab and Dassault also in the race for this critical Indian Air Force project.
