Uncoupling Incident: Engine Detachment Causes Mishap on DEMU Train

A Diesel Electric Multiple Unit train experienced an engine detachment near Badayala Chaurasi station in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh. No passengers were injured. A broken coupling led to the incident, which was swiftly resolved, and an investigation has been ordered by railway authorities.

The engine of a Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) train carrying over 1000 passengers detached unexpectedly near Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, though fortunately, no injuries were reported. The incident, confirmed by railway officials, occurred close to Badayala Chaurasi station around 11am.

According to Ratlam Railway division Public Relation Officer Khemraj Meena, the disengagement was caused by a malfunctioning coupling—a mechanical device responsible for connecting and securing train carriages. The detached engine traveled independently for a brief period before the situation was contained.

Another engine was quickly attached, allowing the train to resume its journey towards Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, just 30 minutes later. To address the issue comprehensively, Divisional Railway Manager Ashwini Kumar has commissioned a three-member inquiry to investigate the incident, with findings expected within a fortnight.
