Domestic airline IndiGo has announced the expansion of its fleet with the addition of three Boeing 787-9 aircraft. These planes, leased from Norse Atlantic Airways, mark a strategic move as IndiGo aims to introduce flights to Europe by mid-summer this year.
IndiGo currently operates two Boeing 777 planes on a wet lease from Turkish Airlines, offering services to Istanbul from Delhi and Mumbai. The airline recently signed a deal for one Boeing 787 from Norse Atlantic Airways, scheduled to operate on the Delhi-Bangkok route starting March 1, 2025.
The new agreement with Norse Atlantic Airways involves a damp lease, where maintenance is provided but not the crew and insurance. This lease is initially for six months, with potential extensions up to 18 months, pending regulatory approvals. IndiGo's strategic intention is to broaden its international network and strengthen its presence globally by 2030.
