Swedish furniture giant Ikea is set to expand its operations in India with online sales in Delhi-NCR and other markets, as announced by India CEO Susanne Pulverer. While planning to achieve profitability post-expansion, the company aims for new investments across the country.
Full-size Ikea stores are scheduled to open in Gurugram by 2026 and Noida by 2028. Pune and Chennai are also on the company's roadmap, with the former already available for online shopping. Following entry into six metro cities, Ikea will focus on an omni-channel strategy, enhancing both physical and online presence.
The company's earnings report revealed a widening loss but aims for profitable growth after scaling operations. Ikea is adapting to India's high real estate costs by optimising store sizes, with new outlets in Gurugram and Noida being smaller yet still offering the full Ikea experience.
