A new report from Edelweiss Mutual Fund forecasts that equities could surpass gold in returns over the coming three years. The study highlights that while gold tends to perform strongly during financial crises, equities flourish in periods of economic expansion, potentially generating better long-term returns.
According to the report, the present Sensex-to-Gold ratio suggests that equities may likely outpace gold soon. Historically, equities have shown superior performance over prolonged periods, consistently delivering higher returns across five-year and ten-year timelines.
While gold and equities have long competed for investor interest, the report indicates that during times of rising corporate earnings and robust economic growth, equities provide more lucrative returns. Despite gold's appeal as a safe-haven asset during uncertainty, its long-term performance lags behind equities.
