Argentine SOEA Union to Stage National Strike Over Wage Dispute
The Argentine oilseed workers' union, SOEA, plans a national strike at Vicentin's soybean processing plants over unpaid wages. Co-organized with Federacion Aceitera, the strike begins indefinitely due to only 30% wage payment last month. Once a key soybean marketer, Vicentin has faced bankruptcy since 2020.
The Argentine oilseed workers' union, SOEA, announced a national strike starting Wednesday at soybean processing plants operated by Vicentin due to unresolved wage disagreements. According to Martin Morales, secretary of SOEA, the action will be coordinated with the Federacion Aceitera organization.
Vicentin reportedly paid only 30% of the wages owed to its employees last month, prompting the union's response. "We have initiated measures in all Vicentin facilities located in San Lorenzo and Ricardone," Morales stated, indicating that the strike would extend across the nation by Wednesday.
A union source revealed that the strike would continue indefinitely. Once Argentina's leading soybean processor, Vicentin has encountered financial difficulties since declaring bankruptcy in 2020. The company has yet to provide a statement regarding the situation.
