A goods train reached Nishchintpur in West Tripura from Tetelia, Assam, signifying a major step for the Agartala-Akhaura rail link project, an official from Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) announced on Tuesday.
The new link promises to improve logistical operations and streamline transportation of goods in the region. On Monday, 11 wagons of cement from Guwahati were successfully placed at the Nishchintpur terminal, marking a historic occasion, according to NFR's chief public relations officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma.
Although the Nishchintpur connection to Bangladesh's Gangasagar station isn't operational yet, the successful trial run in September 2023 raises expectations. The Agartala-Nischintpur section, now open for goods traffic, should alleviate congestion and could propel regional economic growth.
