The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has agreed to accept aggregated airfare data from the Federation of Indian Airlines (FIA) to analyze pricing trends. This move aims to address issues of competitive fairness and involves implementing AI-driven monitoring systems and citizen reporting mechanisms for airfare regulation.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has endorsed a significant move by agreeing to the Federation of Indian Airlines' (FIA) proposal to submit aggregated airfare data. This decision is seen as a strategic step to better analyze fare trends and maintain competitive pricing within the civil aviation sector.

Previously, FIA members, including major domestic carriers like Air India, IndiGo, and SpiceJet, were reluctant to share detailed fare data, fearing harm to competition. However, the approved arrangement allows for aggregated data sharing, ensuring a thorough examination of pricing patterns without compromising competitive interests.

This development follows a Parliamentary panel's recommendations for stringent AI-driven monitoring of airfares and consumer protection mechanisms. The proposed 'Airfare Vigil' app aims to empower citizens to report unfair pricing, enhancing DGCA's regulatory capabilities through participatory governance.
