The rail station is a significant hub for trains heading to and from South Tamil Nadu, also serving the bustling Chennai Beach–Chengalpet route.
At 14:55 hours, the fire erupted near Gandhi Irwin Road, with fire services informed immediately. By 15:10 hours, the blaze was under control, having only damaged a telecom cable without affecting train operations. An investigation is underway to determine the fire's cause, officials confirmed.
