Vedanta Group is reportedly eyeing the acquisition of Jaiprakash Associates Ltd (JAL) as the latter undergoes an insolvency process, according to insider sources.

JAL, a significant player in sectors such as cement, power, and real estate, was admitted into a corporate insolvency resolution process by an order from the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) on June 3, 2024. The NCLT has stipulated that resolution plans should consolidate all verticals of JAL as a whole, rather than separately, maintaining the company as a going concern.

Vedanta, alongside the Adani Group, has expressed formal interest through Expressions of Interest (EOI). Meanwhile, JAL's financial woes are considerable, with outstanding loans totaling Rs 55,493.43 crore as of February 2025. The assigned resolution professional for JAL is Bhuvan Madan, overseeing a crucial phase in the company's financial realignment.
