Kolkata's Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port has significantly increased its security measures and vigilance amid the current military tension with Pakistan, according to port officials' announcement on Friday.
The security enhancements come as per directives from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and the Directorate General of Shipping, following a comprehensive virtual security review meeting led by T K Ramachandran, Secretary of the Ministry, with the participation of key port officials.
Although located in India's east, distant from threat zones, the port is not taking any chances. Measures such as alertness directives for personnel, canceled leaves from May 10-14, and enhanced cybersecurity protocols are among the steps taken to ensure readiness and security at the port.
