An electric bus of the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) found itself stuck in a pit formed by road cave-in near a metro construction site in Girgaon, South Mumbai, during morning rush hours on Monday. Officials confirmed that no passengers were harmed in the incident.
The mishap took place around 9.30 am on Dr Babasaheb Jaykar Marg, close to an ongoing underground Metro line project. The rear left tyre of the bus, operating on route number 121, sank into a cavity formed after a part of the road caved in. Fortunately, all passengers were evacuated safely, and the bus was subsequently towed away.
The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) attributed the cave-in to water ingress in a basement pit linked to ongoing construction. The corporation, along with municipal officials, is taking measures to rectify leaks from nearby utilities that might have contributed to the underground cavity.
