In a recent study, Indian companies have emerged as the global leaders in e-invoicing adoption and market penetration. The study, conducted by Avalara and the Center for Economics and Business Research (Cebr), surveyed 1,720 businesses across six countries, including the US, UK, and France, revealing that over 80% of invoices in India are processed electronically, outpacing the global average of 71.5%.
With such significant adoption, the report suggests that Indian firms could unlock Rs 32,035.71 crore in annual economic value. This surge is credited to enhanced productivity, reduced fraud, and quicker payment methods. The average Indian business, according to the study, processes about 3,827 invoices weekly, one of the highest figures globally.
The study highlights that while compliance with e-invoicing mandates under GST has improved, more extensive B2B integration and inclusion of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are essential to tap into the full economic potential of e-invoicing. Anil Paranjape, General Manager of India Operations at Avalara, emphasized the need for e-invoicing to evolve beyond just a compliance measure to become a strategic business enabler.
