According to a recent Gartner, Inc. survey, organizations demonstrating high AI maturity experience markedly better longevity in their AI projects, with 45% maintaining them for over three years.

Conducted in late 2024 among 432 participants across six countries, the survey leveraged Gartner's AI Maturity Model to assess organizational readiness. High-maturity firms, scoring between 4.2 and 4.5 out of 5, prioritize initiatives based on business value and technical viability, underscoring governance and engineering as vital for success.

This readiness starkly contrasts with low-maturity organizations, of whom only 20% report similar durability. Gartner's Sr Director Analyst, Birgi Tamersoy, emphasizes trust as a pivotal factor, noting that over half of high-maturity firms boast business units ready to adopt novel AI solutions, versus just 14% in less mature entities.

The survey also identified data availability and quality as ongoing challenges, with 34% of lower-maturity and 29% of higher-maturity leaders pinpointing them as primary issues. Security threats and use case identification remain significant barriers as well.

An emergent trend reveals that 91% of high-maturity organizations have appointed dedicated AI leaders, with a focus on advancing AI innovation, infrastructure, organizational structure, and architecture. Close to 60% are centralizing their AI frameworks to bolster consistency and efficacy.
