In a move to ease travel during the upcoming Ganpati festival, Konkan Railway has announced a special Roll on-Roll off (Ro-Ro) train service for private cars. The service will operate from August 23 to September 11 between Kolad in Maharashtra and Verna in Goa.
The Ro-Ro train, equipped with specially designed rakes, will accommodate 40 cars per trip. Each car will cost Rs 7875 for transportation, inclusive of GST. A deposit of Rs 4000 is required at booking, with the remainder due on the travel day.
The service was conceptualized in response to the high demand during the festival, promising a safer alternative to the poorly maintained highways. This marks the first implementation of the Ro-Ro concept for private vehicles since its inception for trucks in 1999.
