Government Greenlights Massive Border Road Development
The government has sanctioned the construction of 2280 km of roads in the border regions of Rajasthan and Punjab. This development, set to begin in October 2024, was announced in response to inquiries about border patrol road lengths and troop mobilisation efficiency along various borders as of May 2025.

The Indian government has approved a significant infrastructure project, greenlighting the construction of 2280 kilometers of roads in the border areas of Rajasthan and Punjab. This decision, made public on a recent Tuesday, was announced during a session in the Lok Sabha.
During the session, Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, responded to an inquiry from Member of Parliament Rahul Kaswan. Kaswan questioned the comparative lengths of all-weather border patrol roads along the Rajasthan-Punjab border, the Indo-Pakistan boundaries in Punjab, and the India-Bangladesh border.
Kaswan also probed the efficiency of troop mobilisation along these regions, noting difficulties along Rajasthan's border due to inadequate road conditions and shifting sand dunes. Enhanced road networks in Rajasthan and Punjab are expected to bolster defence capabilities and reduce troop mobilisation time, paralleling that seen in Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir.
