The Indian government announced subsidized retail pricing for tomatoes in Delhi, setting prices between Rs 47-60 per kg to assist consumers. The National Cooperative Consumers' Federation of India (NCCF) is driving this relief effort by procuring tomatoes from Azadpur mandi. These are being sold with minimal margins at fixed outlets and via mobile vans across the city.

According to the Consumer Affairs Ministry, 27,307 kilograms of tomatoes have been sold at these reduced prices, addressing the temporary spike caused by adverse weather. Prices jumped to Rs 85 per kg by the end of July due to heavy rains but show signs of stabilizing as supply normalizes.

While Delhi faces these challenges, other major cities like Chennai and Mumbai maintain lower prices of Rs 50 and Rs 58 per kg, respectively. Nationally, food prices are stable, with the average retail price of tomatoes dropping to Rs 52 per kg. The government is also ensuring supply and price stability for other staples like onions and potatoes.
