India's Semiconductor Dream: A Step Closer to 'Product Nation'

India advances its semiconductor mission with endorsements from Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Emphasizing indigenous chip manufacturing, the minister credits IIT-M and Mindgrove Technologies for crafting secure IoT chips. The government's DLI scheme further supports startups, boosting India's stride towards becoming a 'product nation'.

India's ambition to establish a robust semiconductor ecosystem has gained momentum following Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw's acknowledgment of significant progress in chip production. Citing a media report via social media, Vaishnaw emphasized the importance of developing chipsets with indigenous intellectual property in transforming India into a 'product nation.'

The minister highlighted the government's semiconductor mission and the Design Linked Incentives (DLI) policy, which supports chip-designing startups. On Monday, Vaishnaw announced that Mindgrove Technologies, incubated at IIT-M, has developed secure Internet of Things (IoT) chips, underscoring innovation born out of policy backing.

Founded in 2021, Mindgrove Technologies exemplifies how innovation and policy converge to create industry-leading solutions. The startup, focusing on secure System-on-Chip (SoC) designs for global markets, has commenced mass manufacturing of its IoT chips. Previously, they secured Rs 15 crore under the DLI scheme to develop a new Vision SoC product line, reflecting India’s growing semiconductor capabilities.
