India Boosts Maritime Security with Next-Gen Patrol Vessel Launch

In a significant move to bolster India's maritime security, the Indian Coast Guard held a plate cutting ceremony for the fourth Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel (NGOPV) in Mumbai. This event marks a milestone in the construction of six advanced patrol vessels designed and built indigenously by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd.
These state-of-the-art vessels, stretching 117 meters and capable of speeds up to 23 knots, boast an operational range of 5,000 nautical miles. Equipped with advanced technologies like AI-based predictive maintenance systems and remote piloted drones, the vessels are set to enhance the Coast Guard's ability to protect and monitor India's extensive maritime domain.
The NGOPV project, contracted on December 20, 2023, reflects the government's 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' initiative, showcasing India's growing self-reliance in defense manufacturing. Deputy Director General (Technical) N G Raveendran and other senior officials were present at the ceremony, emphasizing India's commitment to safeguarding its maritime interests.
