Future Shift Labs has announced the inauguration of the Artificial Intelligence Legislators' Forum (AILF) in India, a pioneering effort designed to educate and empower Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of Legislative Assemblies (MLAs) on AI policy formulation. The initiative is a significant stride in aligning India's surging AI sector with its legislative framework.

With AI becoming integral to public service, economic growth, and democratic mechanisms, AILF aims to close the gap between India's AI advancements and legislative acuity. The forum will facilitate crucial conversations among lawmakers, technologists, and policy experts on ethical guidelines, regulatory shortcomings, and AI's broader societal implications. A cohort of 30 legislators will engage in annual fellowships, workshops, and dialogues focused on AI governance and development.

The formation of AILF aligns India with global counterparts such as the UK's All-Party Parliamentary Group on AI and the US Congressional AI Caucus, which underscore the importance of legislative engagement with emerging technologies. The launch event also featured the unveiling of the report "AI in Parliament: Mapping Legislative Engagement since 2014-2025," and the debut of Rajya Sabha MP Sujeet Kumar's book "AI on Trial," marking an important milestone in India's AI policy landscape.
