India's health-conscious consumers are driving significant growth in the wellness food and beverage sector, with the market size expanding to Rs 63,093 crore, according to a study by Worldpanel India. The sector has experienced a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 11.7% over the past four years.
The report highlights widespread adoption, with 87.9% of Indian households purchasing health products in the past year. Urban penetration stands at 96%, while rural areas are quickly embracing the trend with a 6.2% CAGR. Staple categories like atta and tea dominate, but other foods such as ready-to-cook mixes and bottled drinks are seeing rapid growth.
Consumers appear committed to their health choices, with a 91% national repeat purchase rate. A 22% premium for health products is increasingly accepted, emphasizing the perceived value of wellness. This shift marks a transition from disease management to a proactive lifestyle approach, especially among young homemakers.
