A freight train derailment brought the busy Delhi-Howrah route to a complete standstill for hours overnight. The incident, occurring near Panki yard, delayed over thirty trains, including prominent names like Rajdhani and Garib Rath, according to Amit Kumar Singh, PRO of the Prayagraj Division.
A probe has been initiated to uncover the exact cause of the derailment, noted Singh. As the freight train was being shunted from the north to south lines, two of its wheels slipped, causing a potential threat of a larger accident.
Rapid response teams quickly arrived at the scene, restoring partial movement within 45 minutes. By 2.30 am, services gradually resumed under the oversight of senior railway officers from Kanpur and Prayagraj divisions.
