Australia has taken a significant step in opening its market to Indian prawns, granting the first import approval on Tuesday after years of restrictions triggered by white spot virus concerns. This development was announced by Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh, who is on a visit to Australia.

During his visit, Minister Lokesh has been engaging with government officials, investors, and seafood trade leaders to identify new market opportunities for Indian aquaculture exports. Addressing a longstanding challenge, the approval marks a breakthrough for Indian seafood exporters who faced market exclusions following virus detections.

As part of his tour, Lokesh met with leaders of Seafood Industry Australia and urged for structured trade initiatives connecting Andhra Pradesh exporters with global buyers. He also suggested partnerships for quality upgrades, compliance, and sustainable practices, alongside advocating for enhanced transport and civic infrastructure inspired by successful Australian models.
