India has made a call to arms for developing and least developed nations to join forces in overcoming global trade challenges, including tariff barriers, unilateral environmental limitations, and hurdles in the services sector.

Speaking at the 16th session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva, Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal underscored the urgency for the Global South to present a unified voice on shared global challenges.

In a world rife with volatility and a deficit of trust in multilateral institutions, Goyal pointed out critical issues like eroding confidence in the rules-based trading system and over-concentrated supply chains. The minister also highlighted problems caused by unilateral environmental restrictions and technological divides, which threaten to stifle the development goals of less developed regions.
