India's economy recorded an unexpected boom, achieving an 8.2% growth rate in the second quarter of FY2025-26. This 6-quarter high, primarily driven by manufacturing and services sectors, solidified India's stance as the fastest-growing major global economy, outpacing China's 4.8% growth during the same period.
Experts had predicted a more moderate economic performance. However, robust consumer demand fueled by the GST cut and the festival season significantly boosted manufacturing output, while the services sector exhibited impressive double-digit growth, keeping the economy on a strong trajectory.
Nonetheless, concerns over potential challenges, such as limited fiscal headroom and the risk of external tariffs, may affect future growth. Despite this, economists remain optimistic, suggesting India will comfortably exceed its fiscal year growth targets, aligning with recent data revisions by the Reserve Bank of India.
