Successful Tunneling Operation Under Delhi's Red Line by DMRC

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has successfully completed a complex tunneling project beneath the operational Red Line at Pulbangash without disrupting train services. Using advanced techniques and careful monitoring, engineers completed the downline tunnel for the expansion of the Magenta Line, ensuring the safety and stability of surrounding structures.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced a significant achievement in its phase four expansion by successfully constructing a tunnel beneath the active Red Line at Pulbangash. This challenging task was completed without disrupting ongoing train services, officials confirmed on Sunday.

The newly constructed tunnel forms part of the Janakpuri West–RK Ashram Marg extension on the Magenta Line, linking Pulbangash and Sadar Bazar. The operation was carried out as trains continued to run on the busy Red Line, a scenario described as particularly sensitive due to the structure's open foundations and balanced cantilever span.

To ensure safety, engineers implemented an extensive ground-strengthening plan, employing the TAM grouting technique to reinforce the soil. The DMRC used real-time monitoring instruments to assess ground movement and pier behavior, completing the downline tunnel with ongoing precautions for the up-line tunnel. Daily passenger flow on the Red Line highlights the critical nature of this operation.
