Dutch high-tech manufacturer Prodrive Technologies has signed a €40 million financing agreement with the European Investment Bank (EIB), marking a strategic investment to accelerate innovation in key technology sectors including semiconductors, medical systems, energy efficiency solutions, and automotive electronics.

The financing will support advanced research and development (R&D) as well as scaling up manufacturing capacity, enabling Prodrive to strengthen its role in Europe’s rapidly evolving technology landscape. The initiative aligns with the European Chips Act and broader EU industrial strategies aimed at increasing technological sovereignty, enhancing green competitiveness, and reducing reliance on external supply chains.

Strengthening Europe’s High-Tech Workforce

The program is expected to create and safeguard highly skilled jobs across engineering, embedded software, sensor technologies, and advanced manufacturing. As demand grows for specialized talent in semiconductors, electrification, and smart devices, Prodrive’s expansion will also contribute to upskilling the European workforce and supporting education-industry partnerships.

“This investment by the EIB is a clear signal that we want to support homegrown technology, supporting Europe’s strategic autonomy, competitiveness, and decarbonisation,” said EIB Vice-President Robert de Groot.

He added:

“Prodrive’s research and development aligns with the objectives of the EU Chips Act, while also enabling green growth. It is important that European companies can grow, thrive and expand here in the EU — and we are happy to support Prodrive as they do just that.”

Fueling Innovation for a Cleaner, More Connected Future

Prodrive Technologies CEO Pieter Janssen welcomed the partnership, highlighting its impact on global-scale innovation:

“This step allows us to invest significantly in R&D and manufacturing, helping us achieve our ambitious growth objectives. Through this partnership, we can develop technologies that not only strengthen Europe but also make a global impact through smarter, more efficient solutions.”

The company’s R&D roadmap includes next-generation:

  • Semiconductor equipment components

  • Advanced power conversion systems for hydrogen electrolysis

  • High-efficiency EV charging infrastructure

  • Energy-optimized components for medical imaging and diagnostics

  • Electronics for autonomous and electric vehicles

These technologies are expected to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, enhance energy efficiency, and support Europe’s transition to a net-zero industrial economy.

A Strategic Win for Europe’s Technology Sovereignty

The EIB-Prodrive partnership reflects the EU’s growing emphasis on securing strategic control over critical technologies, reducing dependency on global semiconductor supply chains, and fostering industrial resilience amid geopolitical and energy challenges.

With this investment, Prodrive Technologies is positioned to scale innovation, accelerate commercialization of breakthrough solutions, and reinforce Europe’s leadership in smart manufacturing and clean technology.
