In a call to action, Union Food Minister Pralhad Joshi has urged state governments nationwide to ramp up the creation of storage facilities for foodgrains. Due to the ongoing rise in the procurement of wheat and paddy, Joshi emphasized the necessity for enhanced infrastructure.

Speaking during the Rajya Sabha's Question Hour, Joshi highlighted the significant reduction in losses of foodgrains during transit and storage. This improvement is attributed to technological advancements within the public distribution system.

The procurement of wheat and paddy has seen a dramatic increase over the past 11 years, with favorable policies from the Modi government playing a crucial role. Joshi announced that funds are being provided by the Centre to facilitate the development of these much-needed storage facilities.
