Delhi Implements Stricter Pollution Measures Amid Severe AQI Levels
Delhi authorities have introduced strict measures to combat severe pollution levels, including restricting vehicle entry and regulating office attendance. With the AQI consistently in the 'severe' category, measures include hybrid schooling and compensation for affected construction workers. Pollution in Delhi spikes annually due to trapped emissions during winter.
Authorities in Delhi have enacted stringent measures to address worrisome pollution levels, enforcing entry restrictions on non-compliant vehicles and adjusting office attendance policies.
The city's air quality index (AQI) has plummeted into the 'severe' zone, frequently surpassing the critical 450 mark, leading to disruptions in transportation as dense fog affects visibility. In response, the Commission for Air Quality Management activated the highest level of the Graded Response Action Plan.
Efforts include prohibiting older diesel trucks, suspending construction, and implementing hybrid schooling. Local minister Kapil Mishra announced financial compensation for construction workers amid these bans. These steps are part of a broader commitment by Delhi's government to ensure cleaner air as winter heightens pollution challenges, exposing residents to health risks.
