On the occasion of India's National Startup Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the crucial role women have played in the remarkable success of the country's startup ecosystem. He pointed out that an impressive 45% of Indian startups boast at least one woman in a director or founding position.
Modi emphasized that India has emerged as the world's second-largest hub for women-led startup funding, a testament to the inclusive growth and potential the nation is harnessing. Reflecting on the 10th anniversary of National Startup Day, he noted the dramatic evolution from fewer than 500 startups ten years ago to over two lakh today.
The Prime Minister also remarked on the astounding rise in unicorn companies from just four in 2014 to nearly 125 today, attracting global attention. He lauded the accelerating momentum of Startup India, citing the record registration of new startups and their substantial contribution to innovation and job creation, extending beyond major cities to tier-2 and tier-3 areas, showcasing vast opportunities for India's youth.
