West Bengal's Bold Budget: Empowering Women and Youth

The West Bengal government presented a Rs 4.06 lakh crore interim budget, proposing an increase in women's grants and launching new support for unemployed youth. The budget also includes a 4% hike in dearness allowance for state employees and a raise for ASHA and Anganwadi workers.

The West Bengal government unveiled a Rs 4.06 lakh crore interim budget for the 2026-27 financial year on Thursday, introducing significant welfare measures. Among the proposals, the 'Lakshmir Bhandar' scheme for women will see an increase in monthly grants by Rs 500 starting this February.

State Finance Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya also announced the launch of 'Banglar Yuva Sathi', aimed at providing a Rs 1,500 monthly allowance to unemployed individuals aged between 21 and 40 until they secure jobs or for up to five years, offering a safety net for the state's youth.

Additionally, the budget outlines a 4% dearness allowance hike for government employees and an increase of Rs 1,000 in the monthly stipends of ASHA and Anganwadi workers, highlighting the state's commitment to its workforce.
