Tragedy at Sea: Collision Off Kollam Coast

Two fishermen died after a ship collided with their anchored fishing boat off the Kollam coast. The remaining nine crew members were rescued. The accident involved the merchant vessel MT Solis, leading to an ongoing investigation. The deceased's bodies were recovered and taken to Vizhinjam.

In a tragic maritime incident, two crew members of the fishing boat St Joseph lost their lives after their vessel was struck by a ship off the Kollam coast. The merchant vessel involved, MT Solis, was on its way from Oman to Colombo.

The collision occurred while the fishing boat was anchored for deep-sea fishing, causing it to sink rapidly. Rescue operations swiftly ensued, resulting in the successful recovery of nine crew members, who were subsequently transferred to the Indian Coast Guard Ship Anagh for medical attention.

The Directorate General of Shipping has launched an investigation into the collision. The boat's owner, Rajesh Mathew, was deeply concerned as authorities gathered crew statements and prepared to register a formal case against the Panama-registered vessel.
