Middle East Crisis Forces Postponement of Afghanistan-Sri Lanka Cricket Series

The Afghanistan-Sri Lanka cricket series, planned for March in the UAE, has been postponed due to Middle Eastern tension. Travel disruptions from U.S.-Israeli strikes in Iran led to the decision. Both cricket boards are exploring rescheduling options, with the UAE remaining the preferred venue.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board has announced the postponement of the limited-overs series between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka, which was scheduled for March in the United Arab Emirates. The decision comes amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East, following U.S.-Israeli military actions targeting Iran.

The series would have comprised three Twenty20 matches in Sharjah and three One-Day Internationals in Dubai, set between March 13 and March 25. However, the escalating crisis has disrupted travel across the Gulf, impacting logistical operations, and resulting in the disruption of major sporting events.

Despite comprehensive efforts by all involved parties to hold the series as planned, logistical barriers proved insurmountable. In collaboration with the Sri Lanka Cricket Board, the Afghanistan Board made the decision to postpone. Both boards continue to explore potential rescheduling, with the UAE remaining the preferred venue.
