Domestic passenger vehicle dispatches from companies to dealers surged by 10.6 percent year-on-year in February, according to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). A total of 417,705 units were dispatched, buoyed by positive market sentiment. However, the ongoing conflict in West Asia poses potential risks to manufacturing and export operations.

The month's growth was largely propelled by utility vehicles, which registered a 13.5 percent increase, accounting for 236,957 units. In contrast, passenger car dispatches saw a decline of 3.8 percent, totaling 106,799 units. Van sales in the domestic market edged up by 1.1 percent to 11,620 units as per SIAM's data.

Impressive growth was also noted in the two-wheeler segment, with sales jumping 35.2 percent to 1,871,406 units. Notably, motorcycle sales rose by 30.8 percent while scooter sales increased by 42.3 percent compared to last year. Despite these gains, SIAM Director General Rajesh Menon emphasized the industry's caution towards the evolving geopolitical situation, particularly in West Asia.
