Mahindra & Mahindra has emerged as a major force in the Indian passenger vehicle market, claiming the second-largest spot by volume in 2025-26. The homegrown automaker surpassed former number two Hyundai Motor India and its rival Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd, largely due to its robust SUV sales.

The fiscal year saw Maruti Suzuki holding steady as the market leader with a 3.54% growth in sales of passenger vehicles, totaling over 18 lakh units. Meanwhile, Mahindra & Mahindra notched a significant 20% increase, selling 6,60,276 units, elevating its position over Tata, which reported a 14% growth with 6,31,387 units.

Hyundai slipped to fourth place, registering a 2.29% drop in domestic sales with 5,84,906 units. Rajesh Jejurikar, Mahindra's Executive Director and CEO for Auto and Farm segments, expressed pride in achieving the milestone, attributing success to their focus on delivering customer-pleasing products.
